Possible Cause for Delays / Slow Performance -------------------------------------------- When a 32-bit Authorware piece is created on a network and then packaged to run on another network, you may see performance problems. This is because, by default, Authorware first looks for the network directories where external media and UCDs were located during authoring. If these directories and/or files don't exist on the delivery network, there is a delay while the operating system first looks for the non-existent directories. Eventually, the operating system will time out on the search and will then use the search path you specified when authoring. 16-bit applications run faster because they immediately reject UNC paths to non-existent servers. The solution is to place the external media, libraries and UCDs on the local machine just prior to packaging. Be sure to reload the functions used in UCDs if you originally loaded them from a network drive. By doing this, the packaged piece, even though delivered on a network, will locate the files much more quickly.
