Avoiding Screen Refresh When Jumping Between Files -------------------------------------------------- Even if the graphics displayed in the originating piece are the same as those in the destination file, you will more than likely see a flash when the jump between the two files occurs because Authorware's automatic erasing occurs betwen jumps. You can make a seamless transition using Authorware's Resume feature. 1. Set the destination file to "Resume" in the File/Setup (or File/Properties in A4W) dialog. The first icon(s) on the flowline of the destination file must be the same as those displayed on the screen in the originating file when the JumpFile() or JumpFileReturn() function is called. 2. The files should have the same window size, location, title bar, and menu bar settings. 3. If you want the destination file to restart, rather than resume, place a calc icon after the intial display(s) and enter Resume:=FALSE. 4. The first time the JumpFile is executed, the screen will refresh as Authorware creates a .REC file for the destination file; this will only happen once. Afterwards, the screen will not refresh, even if the course is restarted or the machine reboots because the .REC file for the destination file now exists. To prevent the intial refresh, you can copy the .REC file created on the authoring machine into the user's AxW_DATA folder. 5. If, after following the instructions above, the screen still refreshes, make sure the display just before the jump in the originating piece and the display at the beginning of the destination piece have a transition applied to them and that the transition effect is the same for both.
